Industrial Construction Estimating

Industrial buildings are simple in form and heavy in structural and MEP scope — the takeoff has to get the tonnage and the systems right, not the finishes.

What’s different about estimating this sector

Industrial buildings usually have a smaller finish package relative to their size, so the estimate's accuracy depends much more heavily on getting large-quantity items right — structural steel tonnage, concrete slab and tilt-wall volume, and MEP systems sized for the building's use (refrigeration, process piping, heavy power). Site scope — paving, truck courts, utility runs — is often a bigger share of the total than it would be on a comparable commercial project.
